Sometimes the best thing to happen to a mellophone is to take it out of circulation and make something else out of it. In this example, the bell and branch were taken from a Boston Eb Mellophone and combined with the valves and leadpipe from a Conn single F horn. Valve slides are shortened to appropriate lengths and a fourth, stopping valve is added. An extra creative touch is the twist in the third slide crook. The result is a very useable and compact descant horn. |
